Shopperiam.com: A legit shopping experience or a scam?

When you want to buy something online, the fear of losing your hard-earned money is often greater than the convenience. Online shoppers often come into contact with scammers purporting to be real businesses.

With shopperiam.com being one of the most searched sites on Scam Adviser, I set out to know more about the site. This would help me make a better and more informed buying decision.

A new website

Shopperiam.com is relatively a freshly registered website with ScamAdviser.com showing the site was registered on 2022-02-03. Dealing with new websites is often a tricky affair as there is not enough information about the site.

As far as the real owners of the business are concerned, they have used paid services to hide their identity. This is uncommon but it raises a few eyebrows.

The many locations

Though most online shoppers are not like brick and mortar, they also have physical addresses. With shopperiam.com, they have listed Sesam Street 323b, 4010, Norway as their physical location.

When I searched the physical address, the same name appears on other sites such as Shirt Factory (which claims to be up and running since 1999 but the website has only existed since XXX), and Ikasougou (which sells goats online and seems to be located in West Africa). I found this to be the same trick that scammers use to hide their identity. They register different businesses but use the same kind of location.

Shopperian also listed a customer care site in Mumbai, MH. The customer care number listed on the site starts with +91, the code for India.

Uncompleted site

When going live, most shopping sites will only do it when they have completed the whole site. But Shopperiam seems to have some uncompleted aspects of the site. The about us page shows “Lorem ipsum”, a dummy text, which means the site has not yet been finished.

Others include the executive section where they have listed the names and titles of their top brass like CEO, Marketing Director, and Customer Support. There are no portraits of the persons and their bios show “Lorem ipsum” as well.

The same happens with the FAQ section, which is also not complete. This is highly unusual as most online shops will have full information about their frequently asked questions which is helpful to users.

Uncomplete Contact info

There is no email address listed on the site. Under the email address, they have listed “(insert contact form here)”. The contact form listed is only for demo purposes only.

I found this suspicious as the site is operational, yet any serious business person should have listed a complete form when going live.

Non-existent social media buttons

There are many social media buttons listed, but all of them don’t lead to their social media handles. In fact, when I tried clicking on them, I was taken to another part of the same site. Most legit shopping sites will list their social media buttons. When there are no social media pages, they avoid having the button altogether.

In short, we doubt the legitimacy of shopperiam.com. The site is not fully completed and the relevant contact information is missing. Be careful when shopping on this site.
