Receive messages on GroupMe that say you’ve won an Apple iPad Pro? Be careful of the GroupMe raffle scam! Here’s how the scam unfolds:

Scammers contact you via GroupMe, telling you that you could have a chance to win some super expensive products like Apple iPad Pros, iPhone 13, or Apple TVs to try to trick you into clicking on the phishing link:

Once clicked on, the link will take you to a fake GroupMe page that hosts an online survey:

As mentioned above, after you finish the questionnaire, you are guaranteed a gift and asked to enter personal information to get it:

Before you can receive the gift, you have to pay for the delivery by entering credit card information. Scammers, of course, will record all your credentials and use it for identity thefts. Don’t fall for it!

How to Protect Yourself

• Double-check the sender’s mobile number/email address.
• Free gifts or prizes are always a major red flag!
• Reach out to GroupMe’s customer service directly for help and support, or report abuse to help more people.
