Macien is an online store that sells necklaces, bracelets, and watches. Having appeared among the top searches on ScamAdviser, I wanted to know if they are a good store or a scam. On the website, there is a constant pop-up that shows certain customers are buying their products. The aim is to psychologically pressure you into buying their products.
On their “About Us”, macien.com claims to have started its operations in 2020 “ at the height of Covid 19 pandemic”. They created a purely online store that would make online shopping easy and convenient.
But when I searched the same on Scam adviser, the page is a few weeks old. Having been started on 22nd March 2022. This is the same case with their Twitter handle, which was started in March 2022.
Social proof is proving to be a good tool in online shopping. When I tried searching for any customer reviews on Macien.com, there were non. I could also not find any on their Instagram or Twitter handle.
There were zero reviews on Trustpilot or Scamadviser which is quite common with new websites.
Macien claims to be from Italy, but with a global reach. They don’t have any physical locations as they claim Covid-19 is to blame. I searched for any physical location of the business in Italy, but could not find one. This is suspicious as though a business is online, most countries require a physical address to register the business.
There was no information about who the real owners of the company are with Whois. Again, most legit businesses will have no issue showing the real owners. They don’t mention anything to do with the originality of their products nor do they mention their factories.
The phone number, “+800.753.0893” listed on the home page is a bit weird. +800 is not a valid country code. It is definitely not an Italian number.
Since Macien is a relatively new website, there is not much information to suggest it is a legitimate or scam store. Please proceed with caution when dealing with the store.
When I searched on the internet, I got a lot of sites using similar texts on their “About Us” page. This is a common trait among many scammers who use the same text over and over on their websites.
