Ah Labor Day, that great celebration of the worker’s contribution, of workers’ rights and the founding of unions. The trouble is however — just like any holiday — it’s a perfect vehicle for scammers to make a buck, too. The following scams are what we’ve found in the last week — read on for the low-down. Be on the lookout!
The real Maui Jim is a very popular American sunglasses company. Recently however, numerous fake Maui Jim online shops have been popping up. Consumers have reported receiving SMS text messages, advertising discounts which seem too good to be true — sadly they are.

Rothy’s is another popular retail company, specializing in sustainably-made, stylish shoes. As above, consumers are receiving phishing SMS messages with links directing the would-be victim to fake websites.

If you’re fooled by these outrageous discounts and make a purchase — the only thing you’ll receive is a lighter wallet, and potentially some identity theft. Don’t fall for it!
Lastly we have Jared, the popular American jewelry store. Not to be outdone, other scammers have been using Jared as the disguise for their schemes, with consumers receiving SMS phishing messages promising amazing deals. Again, it’s all a lie, with victims directed to fake websites.
