Nowbeautyclub is a website that offers European shoppers a way to create ‘personal boxes’ of make-up items at low prices. Nowbeautyclub touts that it has the ‘best prices in Europe’ but these hugely discounted prices are only made available to ‘members’.
Nowbeautyclub has four membership plans ranging from €14.95 to €44.95 per month. They also offer a ‘5 days trial’ for just €2 and it includes a €10 gift card.
It sounds like Nowbeautyclub is practically giving away money but there seems to be a darker side to this free trial. Nowbeautyclub fell on my radar after noticing reviews by customers who were complaining that they were trapped in unwanted membership subscriptions.

I made an initial order and without having any kind of knowledge (typical small print that you do not repeat) I joined a subscription for which I received 2 charges of 45 euros. They allow you to consume them on their website but at prices that are practically double those of the market. Nefarious
English translation: You are being framed in a subscription without your knowing it. And they claim that it is a monthly fee, but debit that amount twice a month, without being able to prove that you have signed up yourself. Once ordered something via credit card and already robbed for 200 euros. So credit card fraud
According to one of the reviewers, there are several shady things going on with the website. For example, the prices are no longer as advertised after signing up for a membership and there are additional shipping fees. Further, customers who want to cancel the membership are charged a €5 cancellation fee.
I checked Nowbeautyclub’s Refund Policy to verify this and it is indeed the case. It is stated in the policy that members must extend their membership by at least one month (which costs a minimum of €14.95) if they do not want to incur the cancellation charge of €4.95.
The same complaints are also echoed on Trustpilot giving more credibility to the allegations:

To make matters worse they warn that a product they had in stock when placing the first order now they do not have it so they start over.
You spend the credits again, new subscription required and new cancellation costs. Apart from 12 euros of shipping costs in each order.
Ultimately a nightmare. I strongly advise not to order anything on this website

A company called Meglic Ltd. registered in Cyprus supposedly operates Nowbeautyclub. It should be noted that companies registered in Cyprus are commonly operated by offshore entities based in other countries for tax and legal reasons. A UK phone number has been provided for support.
Upon searching about the company, I found that Meglic Ltd. runs at least 15 other websites all of which offer some sort of ‘personalized box’ and a membership subscription. The websites seem to be based on the same design templates. The names of these websites are given in the Appendix section at the end of the article.
Upon analyzing the website content, I found an additional 77 websites that seem to be related to Nowbeautyclub.
However, these websites are not run by Meglic Ltd. There are 16 other companies involved in running these websites, most of which are registered in Limassol, Cyprus. The details of the companies are as follows:
Nowbeautyclub seems to be one website among a large network of similar websites possibly operated via shell entities registered in Cyprus. Their business model hinges on getting customers to sign up for hefty monthly subscriptions, possibly using deceptive marketing tactics.
Dissatisfied customers have written online that Nowbeautyclub does not make it clear that a monthly subscription fee will be charged. They have also alleged that the discounts offered on the website are eyewash as there are hidden charges that negate the savings and inflate the cost of products more than the market price. Cancelling the subscription is also a tedious process.
We have previously written about companies operating websites in a similar manner, such as Finalblend, Themindtask, ExpenseFriend, Ebookcase and Geeker. By the time customers realize that they are being billed on a recurring basis, they have possibly been charged hundreds of Euros.
According to Nowbeautyclub’s policies, there is no refund available for cancelled memberships. Therefore, unhappy customers cannot recover their money; they can only prevent from more money being lost.
While Nowbeautyclub’s offer may seem enticing, shoppers are advised to exercise caution while dealing with Nowbeautyclub or any of the seemingly related websites as you may incur unwanted recurring charges on your card.
