Is Molicloth.com a Scam or Legit? | Website Review

Molicloth is a website that claims to be selling women’s clothing at discounted prices. It has consistently been among the most-searched websites on Scamadviser.com. Therefore, we have done an in-depth review for the benefit of our users.

Molicloth is an online store created in March 2021 from Guangdong, China. The domain registrant’s contact details are not available and no company name has been provided. Therefore, it is a new website that is being operated anonymously from a high-risk country.

The site has been created using Shopify and sells various women’s clothing items such as dresses, suits, tops, bottoms, swimwear, accessories and more at low prices. The product images appear to have been lifted from external sources with the models’ faces cropped out. This could be an indication that the site is selling clothing that imitates designs by other brands.

The website has very little information apart from the product listings. The About Us page states that the Molicloth brand has been active for ‘more than 10 years’. The authenticity of this claim is highly doubtful as the website has only been created in March 2021.

The same content can also be found on at least one website. Thynova.com contains the same text and is also a Shopify store created from China roughly around the same time as Molicloth. The websites have neighbouring IP addresses, suggesting that they may be operated by the same owners.

Therefore, Molicloth does not seem to be a standalone brand but one website among a network of stores operated by the same company.

While testing the checkout process, I found that the PayPal account associated with the website is named ‘广州环海纪电子商务有限公司’ which translates to ‘Guangzhou Huanhaiji Electronic Commerce Co., Ltd.’. This is additional evidence of Molicloth being a Chinese website. This company name is not mentioned anywhere on the website.

Scamadviser Verification

The Scamadviser page of Molicloth has not been claimed by the company.

Molicloth’s website contains no real company information and there is no mention of China either. The only contact method provided is an email ID created using a free service.

The Terms & Conditions page contains the name and address of Bumperr Ltd. As discovered while researching Babelary, Bumper Ltd. seems to be a shell incorporation of a Chinese company named ChicV. This company is infamous for creating thousands of websites that appear to be running bait-and-switch scams.

The website contains the links to a Facebook page and an Instagram profile. Oddly, the earliest post on the Instagram page was made in November 2020, which is months before Molicloth’s website was even created. This implies that the page was either purchased or has been renamed.

Though the website only links to one Facebook page, I found that Molicloth is operating four different pages. Three of these pages were created in March 2021 and the fourth was created in May 2021. The page location information also shows that they are operated from China.

All these pages are also being used for advertising on Facebook and Instagram, with 135 ads being active at the time of writing this article.

User Reviews

Even though the website is more than 9 months old, there are surprisingly few customer reviews available for Molicloth. All the Facebook pages except the newest one have reviews disabled and only two reviews could be found on Scamadviser. From these two reviews, only one is an actual customer review which states they never received their order and also apparently were targeted for phishing. The other is a warning from someone who identified various red flags. You can read the reviews here.

Considering Molicloth’s connection to Bumperr Ltd. and thereby ChicV, there is a fair possibility that customers may be bait-and-switched. Common complaints about sites operated by these companies include false advertising, inferior products, no or late delivery, wrong size and fit, poor customer service and refusal to provide full refunds unless the customer sends the item back to China at their own expense.

Conclusion

There is an extremely high likelihood that Molicloth might be a scam.

It has a Trust Score of 4% on Scamadviser, indicating that it is tremendously risky to shop on this website. You can read more about Molicloth’s Trust Score here.

Molicloth is a relatively new website created in August 2020 from Guangdong, China. However, the website itself claims that the brand has been active for more than 10 years which is a highly questionable claim.

The registrant’s details such as name and contact details have not been provided. The website itself contains no mention of it being a Chinese business. In fact, the site contains the name and address of Bumperr Ltd. registered in the UK. However, this is likely to be a shell incorporation operated under the umbrella of Chinese companies operating under the name ChicV.

The images on the website look like they have been taken from other websites and cropped to hide models’ faces. The text content is not original either, as at least one other website called Thynova also contains the same. Thynova may be related to Molicloth as both are Shopify stores operated from China and created roughly around the same time.

The PayPal account associated with the website also has a Chinese name that translates to ‘Guangzhou Huanhaiji Electronic Commerce Co., Ltd.’ Molicloth’s social media presence is extremely odd as it is operating four different Facebook pages. All these pages are also being used for advertising on Facebook and Instagram.

Only one customer review for Molicloth could be found, in which it has been said that the customer never received their order.

It is advisable to avoid shopping with Molicloth as it does not appear to be trustworthy. There are reasons to believe that it may be operated by ChicV Holdings Ltd. which operates thousands of websites, most of which have allegations of being bait-and-switch scams.
