We've all been there: You want to buy a particular item online, but you're not sure if the retailer is legitimate. It's a dilemma that many users find themselves in and one that we've all faced at some point or another.
When shopping online, the last thing you want is to receive substandard goods or never have the order delivered. Since online shopping scams are widespread, it's prudent for shoppers to be extra cautious. Thus, when Emgewl.com was among the most searched sites on ScamAdviser, we were compelled to look at its legitimacy.
Emgewl claims to provide “clothing, accessories, footwear at an unbelievably discounted price with as much as 90% off retail”.
But are they a scam or legit online retailer? Let’s find out, shall we?
Though there is nothing wrong with offering customers discounts there is a chance that the site may be a scam when they are too good. Emgewl claims to offer discounts as high as 90%.
This is a common trick used by scammers who give hard-to-resist deals to entice customers into quickly buying the products.
On top of this, their overall prices are ridiculously low which is another telltale sign that Emgewl.com is likely a scam. Retailers cannot offer such low prices and still be profitable. Using low prices is the go-to move for scammers as they use this to lure customers enticed by the discounts.
Emgewl also seems to be using other high-pressure sale tactics like Flash Sales, 24-hour Big Promotions, and Black Friday offers. They also indicate how many site visitors are on the site to create an impression that the website is popular when most of the time these numbers are randomly made-up.
On the contact us page, we noticed that Emgewl is using two languages. We detected the use of Spanish on the first part of the page and English on the last part.
We could not find any connection between Emgewl with Spain or any other Spanish-speaking country which makes this extremely suspicious.
On the "Contact us" page, they claimed to be owned by FADEL-BEATTY LIMITED which is based in Ireland.
FADEL-BEATTY LIMITED is apparently a shell company created in China that also owns many other malicious websites. There are several customer complaints online about various sites related to this company.
Additionally, they seem to be using an email ID ‘emgewl@lotifier.com’ which is of a different domain. On the contact us page, they list it as their official email. Scammers do this to make it hard for users to reach them.
We found a lot of negative reviews online. On ScamAdviser, one of the customers is doubting the legitimacy of saying "these prices are way too cheap to be real! Coats for $4? No way!!!!". Another customer also complained about not getting any delivery after ordering from the site.
With all these reviews in mind, it appears the site has a few issues with customer service and delivery which may cause people to distrust it even further.
We doubt the legitimacy of emgewl.com. A lot of characteristics overlap with what we see in Chinese shopping scams. From having cheap prices to high-pressure sales tactics to an email address that makes them hard to reach, these are all signs of an untrustworthy website. The fact that the website randomly contains Spanish text on certain pages does not improve our opinion of Emgewl. It also has links to Fadel-Beatty Limited which has been linked to numerous scam sites in the past.
We suggest exercising caution when ordering from Emgewl as it doesn't appear to be a reliable source for online shopping.
