CrownPlushSeat is a Shopify store that claims to be selling high-quality throw blankets at cheap prices. The website is relatively new as it was created in July 2020. The registrant’s details such as name, location and contact details have been hidden using a paid service. Therefore, it is a young website that is being operated anonymously.

The website has a constant banner on the top stating ‘DEALS END SOON - LIMITED STOCK AVAILABLE’. Such banners are commonly used on shady online stores as a ploy to create a false sense of urgency and scarcity, which is a deceptive marketing tactic.

The images used on the website can also be considered as misleading, as they are not actual images of the products being sold. They are simply images of designs superimposed onto design templates. Customers may receive items that bear little resemblance to the images.

The prices are also extremely suspicious as CrownPlushSeat claims to be selling the products at a discount of $100 (80%). The same products can be found on AliExpress at slightly cheaper or similar rates, which shows that CrownPlushSeat has falsely inflated the prices to present an illusion of value.

The other content on the website is not original either. The text used in the About Us page can be found on at least 21 other websites. Data from the Scamadviser Analyzer shows almost all these sites have all been created on the same day. They also use the same templates and are hosted on Shopify, suggesting that they have been created by the same owners. Therefore, CrownPlushSeat shows signs of being part of an organized network of potentially fake online stores.

It should also be noted that I have been monitoring these sites since the past few days and most of them have suddenly been taken down today (25-03-2021) simultaneously. Disappearing without warning is a common tactic of scam online stores.

Scamadviser Verification

The Scamadviser page of CrownPlushSeat has not been claimed by the company.

CrownPlushSeat’s website contains absolutely no information about the company that is running this business.

The company does not seem to have a social media presence. The Contact Us page does not provide important information such as a company name, email ID, phone number or address. It only contains a contact form that can be used to contact the company via email.

I found an email ID and phone number hidden in the Terms of Service page of the website. The email ID was found to be working when tested. The phone number is a toll free 800 number that can be operated from anywhere. This hints that CrownPlushSeat might not be an American company at all.

The phone number is also not unique to CrownPlushSeat as there are at least two other online stores that are also using it. This, once again, indicates that CrownPlushSeat is one among numerous websites being operated by anonymous owners.

The website also gives Service Hours as per the Pacific Standard Time (PST). This implies that CrownPlushSeat is an American business. However, considering all the facts that have been gathered up till this point, there is a fair likelihood that CrownPlushSeat is actually a Chinese business pretending to operate from America.

User Reviews

CrownPlushSeat’s home page itself contains some reviews supposedly written by their customers. However, these are clearly fake as the same reviews can be found on several websites.

No genuine reviews for the website could be found on external websites.

Conclusion

There is an extremely high likelihood that CrownPlushSeat might be a scam.

It has a Trust Score of 1% on Scamadviser, indicating that it is exceptionally risky to shop on this website. You can read more about CrownPlushSeat’s Trust Score here.

The website appears to be using deceptive marketing practices to create a false sense of urgency, scarcity and value. All the products on the website are supposedly $100 lower than the original price, which is a discount of 80%. However, these discounts are shown to be false when the prices are compared against those of the same products on AliExpress.

The images of the products also don’t seem to be real, as they are images of designs superimposed on design templates. Therefore, the products that customers receive may not resemble the images used to advertise them.

The text content on the website is also unoriginal as there are at least 21 websites using the same content. There are signs indicating that these sites may be run by the same owner as a part of an organized network of scam websites. Many of these were suddenly taken down simultaneously on the day this review was written. This is a common trait of fake online stores.

There is no information about the company running the website, such as company name or address. The contact information present on the website is a toll-free 800 number and an email ID. The phone number is also being used by at least two other websites, which shows that CrownPlushSeat might not be a genuine brand.

The website also gives the Service Timings as per the PST time zone which is used in North America. However, there this may be an attempt to hide the website’s Chinese origins.

The only reviews available for CrownPlushSeat are on the website itself. These reviews are clearly fake as the same can be found on multiple websites.

It is advisable to avoid shopping on CrownPlushSeat as there are high chances of having an unpleasant shopping experience.
