How to Report a Scam to the FBI IC3

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) runs the Internet Crime Complaint Centre (IC3) which is its reporting platform for internet crime. It serves as a crime information collection and sharing hub with other law enforcement agencies like:

  • State police,
  • Federal,
  • International, and,
  • Local Police

Follow the steps below to report a fraud to IC3 via their website:

Step 1

Go to IC3's website

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click, “I Accept”.

Note: Accepting the sharing of information you report is the only way to proceed to the actual fraud reporting.

Step 2

Fill in all the following relevant fields:

Victim Information

Victim name

Who you are reporting on behalf of,

Address,

Location, and,

Contact details.


Financial Information

Date of incident

Amount transacted

Recipient Bank Account Number and Bank


Description Of Incident

Describe the occurrence of the incident in good detail.

Information About the Subject(s) Who Victimized You
Here you fill in the name, address, and contact details of the person who defrauded you.

Other Information

The extra information here includes:

Emails exchanged (if an email was used),

If there were other victims or witnesses,

If the incident has been previously reported to other law enforcement agencies,

Who Filed the Complaint

Indicate here whether you are the victim in the crime you are reporting. If not,

Then you need to fill in your name and contact details for follow-up.


Digital Signature

Sign off using your name.

There you go, your report is filed!
