Receiving some strange text messages from Coinbase? Or peculiar emails about some unusual Coinbase security alerts? Watch out for Coinbase phishing scams!
Posing as Coinbase, scammers have been sending out messages containing phishing links in texts and emails, claiming that there are issues with users’ Coinbase accounts. The messages prompt you to click on a link (sometimes a button with a hyperlink) and enter personal information, including your Coinbase login credentials and payment details.
When these scams are successful, the perpetrators record the sensitive data and use it to hack into people’s Coinbase accounts or to commit identity theft. Read on so you don’t become a victim!
Scammers try to convince you that you need to unlock your Coinbase account by clicking on a button embedded in an email.
If you do so, you will be taken to a fake Coinbase page and asked to log in. Again, scammers can collect the sensitive data you input and use it to steal your Coinbase account or to commit other cybercrimes.

Scammers also love to use text messages to try to trick Coinbase users. They falsely claim that there is an “attempted withdrawal” from your Coinbase account and they instruct you to click on the embedded link to resolve the issue. Again, the link is a phishing link, and it leads to a fake Coinbase login page. Watch out, because if you follow these bogus instructions, your login information will end up in the scammers’ hands, and your Coinbase account will be compromised!
